Rental / Tours : Conditions

Age

In order to satisfy our insurance terms and conditions, our customers must be over the age of 25

Deposit

A 10% deposit is all that is required when you book up. Our confirmed receipt of this will secure your booking. The remainder of the costs are payable 30 days before the commencement of your tour or rental, plus payment of any other activity bookings that we have made on your behalf.

Default or Damage

South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd reserves the right to repossess a motorcycle and terminate a tour for persons failing to comply with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, or should the motorcycle be damaged. The termination of the hire under the authority of this clause shall be without prejudice to the other rights of the owner and the rights of the hirer under this Agreement or otherwise.

Driver’s Licence

A full motorcycle driving licence is required for you to go on tour or hire a bike from us, it doesn't have to be a New Zealand licence, but needs to be valid from the country you come from. We will need to see your driver’s licence and take note of the number when you complete the booking form. Riders for our tours and hire must be over 25.

Insurance

Medical Insurance - New Zealand’s 'ACC', Accident Compensation Corporation, covers your medical expenses for any vehicle accident you may suffer whilst you are visiting.

Motorcycle Insurance - We insure all of our motorcycles to cover vehicle damage, loss and theft. Before you take your motorcycle we will ask you to complete an 'Agreement to Hire Rental Vehicle' form - it's just like hiring a car. You can provide us a with a 'bond' to cover yourself, or pay us a daily rate ro reduce this bond amount. You cannot reject insurance cover.

Insurance (a) Bond - the amount depends on which bike band you choose. Your credit card details are lodged with us when you collect your bike or when the tour begins by means of a credit card swipe (funds are not actually deducted from your account at this time). However, on occurrence of an accident or damage to a your motorcycle, the bond amount becomes payable immediately. When you return your motorcycle to our premises undamaged and within the stipulated return date, the credit card slip is simply torn up/returned to you. If the motorcycle is damaged, or not returned to our premises within the agreed date, the appropriate costs up to the full bond amount will be deducted.

Insurance (b) Bond and Waiver - we offer you the option to reduce the insurance bond - a payment per day per bike will reduce the insurance bond risk by 50%.

Damage / Breakdown

Whilst every effort will be made to replace a damaged motorcycle so that you can continue your tour, this cannot be guaranteed. We do not permit our customers to ride off-road or on unmade, shingle roads when hiring a motorcycle from South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd. Should a motorcycle be damaged and it is confirmed that the damage occurred whilst on a road other than a tar-sealed road, we reserve the right to charge the customer the full amount of costs incurred. There are other conditions and it is important that you read the Agreement to Hire Rental Vehicle before you sign it.

Travel Insurance

South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd is unable to give a refund once a tour has started, under any circumstances. Should you wish to be insured for this eventuality, travel insurance is recommended.

Personal Insurance

Should you suffer an accident and you want private care you should arrange the appropriate insurance. South Pacific Motorcycle Tours will refund part payments only if a tour is cancelled, dependent upon timescale's. Should you wish to be insured for this eventuality, cancellation insurance is recommended.

Motorcycles / Maintenance

In accordance with New Zealand Land Transport Safety Authority regulations, South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd is a transport service licence holder, and authorised to operate a rental service. We must ensure that all of our motorcycles are properly maintained and that any normal legal requirements are met. This includes paying all fees, and having the motorcycles available for inspection by the authorities at any time.

All motorcycles available for hire are regularly serviced and maintained to a quality standard by experienced motorcycle technicians.

Refunds

We appreciate that there may be circumstances beyond your control, which mean you need a refund, and you may cancel with us at any time. The cancellation date is the date you tell us in writing.

Cancellations received less than 60 days prior to departure will be subject to the loss of your deposit. Cancellations received less than 30 days prior to departure will be subject to the loss of the full amount.

Once the hire/tour has actually commenced we are unable to offer any refund or part-refund, and there is no refund on any part of the tour, which you may not have used. South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd also reserves the right to cancel any tour or rental booking, in this case any monies paid to date will be refunded in full.

Rental Agreement

As the holder of a rental service licence, South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd and the hirer (i.e. the customer) must enter into an agreement for the hire of the vehicle which is in the terms set out in the Annex to these rules in the Transport Services Licensing Act 1989.

Responsibility

South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd does not assume responsibility for bodily injury nor for any damage or loss to personal effects. We reserve the right to change or alter the Tour Plans at any time for the convenient operation of the tours, and to change accommodation at any time for any reason. South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd is responsible for providing the services listed in the tour descriptions, supplying a motorcycle in good mechanical condition with current registration and certificate of fitness as required by the New Zealand Government and Land Transport Safety Authority for rental vehicles.

We are not responsible nor liable for speeding and or parking fines issued to customers by the authorities, weather, acts of God, nor any other circumstances beyond its control.

South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd is not responsible or liable for delay, loss, damage or injury to persons or property and illness incurred during their stay in connection with or elating to the supply or omission of air, sea, land transportation services or of accommodation, meals, facilities, entertainment or other services provided us.

Return of Motorcycle

If a motorcycle is not returned on the tour return date as advised on the Booking Form or agreed with South Pacific Motorcycle Tours Ltd, we reserve the right to apply a penalty charge per day until the motorcycle is returned to our premises undamaged. This will be deducted from the security 'bond' deposit which is lodged with us before the tour commencement.

Arrival/First Day

If you are on one of our fully-guided tours your first day will be spent settling in so don't worry about what time you fly in, or arrive into Christchurch City. We'll collect you, wine and dine you, introduce you to your trusty steed, and make sure you are completely comfortable with everything before we set off.

There is bound to be time for a familiarisation ride to the mountains or sea, maybe a hot spa before dinner, a stroll round the grounds and farmyard, or a quiet relax on one of the verandas. Unlike many tour operators, your arrival day is not Day One of your tour, but Day Zero. So with us you really do get good value for money.

If you are just hiring a motorbike we'll collect you from city or airport too, and help with getting to know your bike before you set off.

Clothing

We recommend you bring your own motorcycle gear with you where at all possible. As a motorcyclist you have already spent a lot of time (and probably money) ensuring that your helmet, jacket and pants are perfect for you.

Whilst we do hire accessories (see below), they may not be as good as your own. Remember you can leave any other luggage items with you at our premises, and our support vehicle will ensure your other clothing is always nearby.

For normal wear, New Zealand dress is usually very informal, with shorts and tee-shirt acceptable at most locations. But bring some smart casual clothes for some activities, restaurants and night spots. In addition to your motorcycle gear, bring a fleece, warm jacket and sweater for cooler weather and higher altitudes. You can expect some rain in the deep south so bring wet weather gear too. If visiting between May and September, pack warm winter garments and layer your clothing. Remember you can hire protective/rain jackets, over-trousers and gloves from us if you wish. Make sure you bring sunglasses, lotion, and a cap for sun protection the sun will shine, the UV is high and it can get very hot!

Luggage

Because your tour is based at Mandeville Lodge and we have a good support vehicle, it means that you can bring as much luggage as you wish if you are a fully guided tour, obviously within air travel limits if applicable, and your belongings will be safe. Most of our motorcycles come with lockable luggage, and we suggest that this is used for wet weather gear, water, camera, extra clothing, small personal items, sun-protection wear, etc.

Regardless of whether you are on tour or just renting, if you wish to leave any luggage or belongings at Mandeville Lodge we can guarantee it's safety and this service is completely free of charge.

Meals

Breakfast and evening meals are included on our fully-guided tours. We do our best to offer you an excellent range of cuisine to suit all palates and have researched out some top-quality and very special places to eat on every tour. New Zealand is renowned for its food quality and freshness, and by the time you have visited our recommended restaurants we are sure you will agree.

Pillion Riders

Pillion riders are especially welcome to South Pacific Motorcycle Tours. If your partner is riding you can pillion for part of the way, and should you feel weary you can ride in our support vehicle and see the wonderful scenery in luxury. You also have the option of staying at Mandeville Lodge, our own Bed & Breakfast accommodation while your partner is out enjoying him/herself, or you can spend the day exploring, for example Christchurch or Queenstown, and having a break until your partner returns to collect you for the next day's fun. If you do not have a partner who rides then why not ask us to find you one - we will do our utmost to sort something out for you! And should your partner wish to accompany you on tour by joining the support vehicle, prices would be the same as for a pillion.

Additional Motorcycle Rental

You may hire a motorcycle from us at any time before or after your intended tour, subject to availability. However, in accordance with our terms and conditions, should this motorcycle be damaged before your tour commences we are not obliged to automatically provide you with an alternative one for the planned tour, and you will not be eligible for a refund for the remaining tour period.
