Duration
Vehicles are available at 9am on the day you commence your hire and must be returned by 5pm at termination unless prior arrangements have been made. All charges are calculated on a calendar day basis. The day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates. Late pick-up or early return of vehicle, does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.

Minimum Hire
Minimum hire is 5 days. Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak periods.

Free Delivery
Your vehicle will be delivered to the airport or your hotel for your convenience.

Licence
All drivers must be 21 years of age or over and have held an unrestricted driver's licence for at least one year. The original driver's licence must be shown at the time of pick-up when the driver is present and be valid for the whole length of the rental. If the driver's licence is not in English an international driver's licence is also required.

Deposit
To secure a confirmed booking, a deposit is required with the balance of any hire due to be paid 14 days prior to the hire commencing.

Cancellation Fee
Cancellation fees will apply as follows:
  • Within 5 days of booking – your booking fee will be refunded
  • After 5 days of booking – your booking fee may be used towards a future reservation (not including specials or promotions)
  • Within 14 days of pick up – an additional 25% of the rental fee will be charged
Availability
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category. In the unlikely event that the vehicle is not available at the commencement of your rental due to it being repaired from a mechanical breakdown or accident or late in return from a previous rental then we will endeavour to substitute another vehicle in its place. If your rental period is reduced or delayed as a result then you will be entitled to a refund of any monies paid for the period of the rental that the vehicle was not provided. We will not be liable for any other costs, charges or damages (whether consequential or not) as a result of a delay in providing or a failure to provide the vehicle. All rights are reserved to refuse any hire under any circumstance.

One Way Rentals
A one-way rental fee may apply for rentals between the North and South Islands where pick-up is between 01 Oct and 31 Mar.

Picton & Queenstown
An additional location fee may apply to all campervans picking up or dropping off in Picton or Queenstown. If the pick-up and drop off occurs in the same city, only one location fee will apply.

Return Of Vehicle
The vehicle is to be returned in a reasonably clean and tidy condition with full fuel tanks (being petrol, diesel, LPG gas) and all living equipment undamaged and accounted for. Failure to do so will result in additional charges. To change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced you must obtain authorisation from the Dragon Wagons. No refund is available for early returns.

Rental Extension
This is subject to availability and first obtaining authorisation. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card on confirmation of the rental extension. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee in addition to the daily rate.

Use Of Vehicle
The customer shall ensure that:
  • a) The water in the radiator and battery of the vehicle is maintained at the proper level
  • b) The oil in the vehicle is maintained at the proper level
  • c) The tyres are maintained at their proper pressure
  • d) The correct fuel is used and there is no water contamination of fuel
  • e) The vehicle is driven in a cautious, prudent and normal manner and all reasonable care is taken in handling and parking the vehicle
  • f) The vehicle is kept locked and alarmed when unoccupied with the keys and remote under his or her personal control at all times and is able to produce such keys and remotes should the Vehicle be stolen
  • g) Generally do all the things necessary to keep and maintain the vehicle in it's current state and condition (fair wear and tear excepted) making every effort to park the Vehicle in a secure and safe environment
  • h) Comply with any applicable seat belt laws and child restraint laws
Road Restrictions
Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. Vehicles are not permitted on the following roads:

Ninety Mile beach (Northland), North of Colville township (Coromandel Peninsula), Tapu-Coroglen Road (Coromandel Peninsula), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook), Skippers Road (Queenstown).

We reserve the right at our sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

Insurance
Insurance is included in the daily hire rate. All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the excess of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental. The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Third Party. Please note that insurance is not compulsory in New Zealand and there is no guarantee that these damages will be recovered and third party claims can take months or even years to resolve.

Excess Reduction Option
The excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of the Excess Reduction Option. A non-refundable payment per day reduces the excess.

Exclusions
All Insurance Cover is void if any of the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include:
  • a) Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to: any vehicle submersion, creek or river crossing, driving through low plain flooded areas, beach driving
  • b) Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance
  • c) If the customer is proven not to have abided by the current road rules, resulting in damage to the hired vehicle or third party vehicle/property
  • d) Any damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • e) The associated costs arising from the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol) or contaminated fuel
  • f) The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle, which may include, but is not limited to a vehicle that has become bogged submerged or has been abandoned
  • g) The cost to replace keys and/or remotes, which have become lost, stolen, or retrieval of keys and/or remotes, which have been locked in a vehicle
  • h) Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle
  • i) Driving on restricted roads
  • j) Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or probationary licence
Security Deposit
A Vehicle Security Deposit is required to be paid on pick-up of the Vehicle which will be secured by signing a separate security bond in the form of a credit card imprint or a deposit. The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas).

Repairs
All vehicles are registered with the Automobile Association (AA) for 24 hour roadside assistance. This service covers any mechanical faults with the vehicle. All non mechanical call-outs will incur a call-out charge. In the unlikely event of a mechanical breakdown faults or problem occurring during your hire, you are authorised to effect reasonable repairs up to a maximum pre-determined amount (provided you were not responsible for the damage) without having to contact us. You must produce a receipt on the return of your vehicle to get a refund. For any amounts in excess of this amount you must contact us for authorisation prior to the repairs being carried out. Puncture and tyre repairs are the responsibility of the customer unless the tyre is found to be defective.

Breakdown / Accidents
If the vehicle becomes damaged or requires salvage, whether because of an accident or breakdown, it must be reported to Dragon Wagons within 24 hours in order to give Dragon Wagons the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so may compromise any claims for compensation.

In the event that the vehicle becomes inoperable through breakdown or damage during the rental and where it is unlikely that the vehicle will be repaired within 48 hours from notification, we will use all reasonable endeavours to provide the client with a replacement vehicle. The availability of an exchange Vehicle is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. If such replacement involves obtaining a vehicle from a third party hirer, then the customer agrees to pay any extra one-off or daily charges incurred in obtaining that vehicle.

Dragon Wagons will not be liable for any other costs, charges or damages (whether consequential or not) suffered by the client as a result of any delay in providing or failure to provide a replacement vehicle. Dragon Wagons liability extends only to a refund of hire for total days the vehicle is not used. We accept no responsibility after the termination of the rental agreement for any problem for which we were not notified during the hire.

Currency Variations
All transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for such variations.

Credit Cards
When a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Preferred credit cards are Visa Card and MasterCard.

Road Rules
In New Zealand we drive on the left side of the road and give way to traffic from the right. Speed limits are strictly enforced: 50 kilometres per hour in urban areas and 100 kilometres per hour on the highways. Distances are measured in kilometres.

Infringments
We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will apply + any associated court costs.

Animals
No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.

Smoking
NO smoking is permitted in our vehicles.

Road User Charge / Diesel Tax
We do NOT charge you for the New Zealand Road User Charge / Diesel Tax.

Breach Of Contract
Dragon Wagons shall have the right to terminate the rental agreement and take immediate possession of the vehicle if the hirer fails to comply with any Terms and Conditions of this agreement or if the vehicle is damaged. The termination of the hiring under the authority of this clause shall be without prejudice to the other rights of the owner and the rights of the hirer under this agreement or otherwise.
