Terms and Conditions



Rates
All Alpha rates are New Zealand Dollars and inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and subject to Terms and Conditions outlined below.

Standard Rates Include:
  • Free transfers on vehicle pick up from Airport or City to the Depot
  • Unlimited Kilometres
  • Goods & Services Tax [GST] of 12.5%
  • Road User Charge/Diesel Tax
  • Standard Alpha Vehicle Insurance
  • Cleaning fees and pre departure vehicle preparation
  • One Way fees
  • Extra Driver fee
  • Vehicle living equipment
  • Supermarket Discount card available throughout New Zealand
  • New Zealand Travel Guide
  • Alpha Vehicle Operations Manual
  • Road Maps, Camping Park Directories and other tourist information
  • 24 hour roadside assistance throughout NZ
Minimum Hire Periods and One Way Hires
For all rental vehicles there is a minimum period of seven (7) days. It is possible to commence your hire in Christchurch and finish it in Auckland (or vice versa) at no extra charge if the rental period is a minimum of fourteen (14) days.

One Way Hires
One Way hires are available between Auckland and Christchurch [or vice versa] at no extra cost.

Daily Hire Charges
The daily hire charges are calculated on a daily basis, not a twenty-four hour day. Vehicles are available at 8.00 am on the day you commence your hire and must be returned by 4.30 pm on termination unless prior arrangements are made.

Deposit and Payments
When you receive your confirmation a non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking. The balance of monies owing to Alpha is required 28 days before the hire commences. Cancellation fees apply see below.

Vehicle Equipment
The following equipment is standard in all Alpha motorhomes and campervans:
  • Living
  • Vehicle manual
  • Maps, travel guides, camping park directories
  • Gas and/or electric heater
  • Bucket, broom
  • Towels
  • LPG gas bottle
  • Clothes pegs
  • Dustpan and brush
  • Sleeping
  • Duvets, blankets, (or sleeping bags will be provided as an alternative)
  • Pillows and sheets
  • Cooking / Dining
  • Crockery, cutlery
  • Cooking utensils, pots, frying pan
  • Grater, chopping board
  • Salad/serving bowls
  • Storage containers
  • Toaster
  • Coffee plunger, kettle, teapot
  • Tea towels
Extra Equipment
To be booked at time of reservation (additional charge applies):
  • Table/2 chairs

Alpha Campervans provides bicycle racks and modern bicycles for hire. Bicycles are all general purpose models suitable for both road use and moderate off-road conditions.

Racks can be fitted to any vehicle model in the fleet and are available in conjunction with hires from either depot, Auckland or Christchurch, including one way hires.
  • Bicycle Rack

  • A helmet (compulsory in NZ), cycle lock and repair kit are supplied with each bicycle
  • Suitable models are available for children
  • Child seats are available and can be fitted on request
  • All bicycles are insured by Alpha Campervans, however an Excess per bicycle and bicycle rack will apply to cover loss or damage
  • Costs for normal on-road maintenance will be at Alpha Campervans expense. However any replacements or repairs required due to the fault of the hirer up to the value of NZ$ 100.00 per bicycle and/ or bicycle rack will be met by the hirer
  • Alpha 4 Berth Vehicles can carry a maximum of 3 bicycles
  • Alpha 2 and 3 Berth Vehicles can carry a maximum of 2 bicycles
  • Bicycle hire reservations should be completed at the same time as the vehicle hire in order to avoid disappointment


Insurance
All Alpha Standard Rates include Standard Vehicle Insurance. This provides cover for:
  • Damage to the Alpha vehicle or third party property
  • Public Liability
A Bond/Excess must be paid on collection of the vehicle. The hirer will be responsible for any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property up to the Bond/Excess amount.

The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens and tyres.

This Bond/Excess may be paid by cash, travellers cheques or credit card. Alpha accept American Express, Visa, Bankcard and Mastercard. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then the Bond/Excess will immediately be debited from the account. Alpha will not be responsible for any losses incurred due to interest charges or currency fluctuations.

The Bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean undamaged condition, with no damage incurred to third party property, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette.

Alpha offers two options to either reduce or waive this standard Bond/Excess.

Insurance Exclusions
Tyres and punctures are not covered by insurance and are to be repaired/replaced at the hirer's cost.

Windscreen repairs and/or replacement are not covered by insurance unless the hirer has purchased Bond Waiver Insurance.

The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Alpha vehicle or Third Party property if:
  • The terms of the Rental Agreement entered into are breached
  • Damage is caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • The vehicle is driven on restricted roads
  • Damage is due to careless, wilful, or reckless driving, negligence, or other act of the hirer results in water submersion or salt water damage
Refunds
Regretfully no refunds can be given for any unused portion of your holiday. However your travel insurance may in some circumstances cover the unused portion. Refunds for hires paid and cancelled prior to pick up will be subject to our cancellation policy.

Fuel
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire.

Vehicle Substitution and Design
We shall make every effort to provide the vehicle you requested but where a vehicle is unavailable for any reason we reserve the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle at no extra cost to you. While including the same facilities, vehicle layouts may vary slightly to those shown due to manufacturer design changes.

Drivers Requirements and Licence
All drivers must be 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid drivers licence, to be produced at the start of the hire. An international or country of origin licence is acceptable. No special licence is required to drive any Alpha vehicle in New Zealand. No maximum age limit applies.

Traffic Infringements
All traffic infringements are the responsibility of the hirer. Alpha reserves the right to pass on details of the hirer's home contact to the New Zealand Traffic Authorities.

Animals
We regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any Alpha vehicle.

Road Restrictions
Hirers are permitted to drive their vehicle on any road in New Zealand except the following which are prohibited in all circumstances:
  • North Island
  • Ninety Mile Beach - Northland
  • North of Colville Township - Coromandel Peninsula
  • South Island
  • Skippers Canyon Road - Queenstown
  • Ball Hutt Road - Mt Cook
Transfers
Auckland United uses an 'on-demand' shuttle transfer service. This allows you to transfer at your convenience. This service operates daily 0800 - 1700 (except Christmas day). The transfer from the Airport Terminal to the depot on arrival is free. The transfer to the Airport Terminal from the depot on departure is free. All other times & destinations are by Taxi at the cost of the hirer.

Christchurch United uses taxis and shuttles as the preferred method of transfer. This allows you to transfer at your convenience. The transfer on vehicle pick up is complimentary. The transfer at the end of the hire is at the cost of the hirer.

Cancellations, Transfers and Amendments
Cancellation fees are as follows:
  • 29 days and over: Deposit retained
  • 20 - 28 days: 20 % (or deposit, whichever is greater)
  • 10 - 19 days: 40 % of total reservation cost
  • 1 - 9 days: 75 % of total reservation cost
  • No Show: 100 % of total reservation cost
Once a booking has been confirmed and a deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy. Transferring a booking, once confirmed will incur a NZ$ 25.00 fee unless it is within 30 days of travel, when the above cancellation charges apply.

A booking can only be transferred to a maximum of 6 months before or after the original date of travel.

Amendments to increase the length of the booking can be made at no cost.

Amendments to decrease the booking will be charged at a minimum of NZ$ 25.00 provided the amendments occur at least 30 days prior to departure date. It is important to note that Alpha may at its discretion treat any amendment to decrease the booking as a cancellation.

Alpha reserves the right to amend conditions, vehicle specifications and tariffs at any time without prior notice.
